USS Sunfish  SSN-649
Tony served aboard the USS Sunfish (SSN649) a nuclear powered Sturgeon Class fast attack submarine. He was part of the commissioning crew in 1969 and served on Sunfish until he left the Navy in 1971. After Sunfish was decommissioned in 1997, Tony requested and was granted permission to sail with his old submarine on her last voyage from San Diego, California to Bremerton, Washington. Tony’s essay recounting the last voyage of the USS Sunfish was published in the National Submarine Review and is posted on the Sunfish website. .
